Marta Marta HoP
Since 1999, mmHoP's Artistic Director Martha Carter has been developing her own vision of 'style fusion' with the creation of dance, new media and music productions. Transcending her roots from classical music and ballet, Martha's hybrid interdisciplinary performances are the external expression of her vision of dance as a reflection of contemporary life.

Twisted is the newest interdisciplinary creation by Artistic Director Martha Carter about dance, scoliosis and personal transformation. The story is told through monologue, movement, music and visuals, revealing Carter’s touching, yet comedic journey of living with a twisted spine while pursuing a career in dance. Twisted goes beyond the realm of the personal into the universal, speaking on the surface about the perseverance of the human spirit, and on a more profound level as a metaphor for human existence in the face of a chaotic universe.

Vancouver photographer Steven Lemay presents this collection of images that were selected from hundreds of photos created during two publicity shoots for Martha Carter and mmHoP’s production ‘TWISTED, A Twisted tale of transformation’ premiering April 1-4, 2009 in the Faris Studio. Innovating with the external and internal body, Lemay finds the tension and beauty between the real and surreal, visible and invisible, movement and stillness, symmetry and asymmetry.
Performers: Martha Carter, Katy Harris-McLeod, Jennifer McLeish-Lewis, Jennifer Oleksiuk and Alisoun Payne.
